I am so happy that Senator Barack Obama graduated from West Point and understands war strategy to have enough knowledge to be able to completely ignore generals. The generals say the surge is working and Mr. Obama says it is not. With these opposing views, it can only be assumed that someone is right and that someone is wrong. I just cannot seem to figure out who is right, but I get the feeling it is the generals who have been around the block; who have study wars at West Point; who have battle experience.
Mr. Obama says he will listen to the generals but ultimately, he is going to ignore them because they all are saying the same thing: "The surge is working." I have not yet heard a general say that the surge is not working and that it would be in America's best interest to pull out.
Mr. Obama is proposing a time table to pull out. In 16 months, we will be out of Iraq. His vision of ending the war is defeat. He will be saying that the terrorists are superior to America. Oppression superior to freedom.
But the war won't be over yet once we pull out much to everyone's disappointment because Mr. Obama has forgotten that the Islamic fundamentalists hate America with a never ending passion. They just do not want us out of the Middle East, they want us blown off the world.
I do not believe in Senator Obama's illusion of peace. Once we completely pull out, I will give the terrorists about a year to plan, train, and execute a terrorist attack on the United States. With out our military putting pressure on Al Qaeda, they can devote all their time, money, and effort to completely focus on terrorist attacks. And they hate us the most. It will be a delayed going away present.
But maybe, just maybe, we have forgotten why we waged a war on terrorism and need another slap in the face to wake up and smell the fresh coffee of reality.
