Justice Souter to Retire

What the big deal? A man is wanting to retire from his job and wants a good replacement. Now is the good time for it to happen. The President is democratic, congress is democratic, and he is democratic so most likely his successor will be democratic too.

I don't really see a big deal with him wanting to retire at all. It is a personal choice for a person when they want to retire from their job. Leave the guy alone! He put in his time, and did the job he was given to the best of his ability, which is all that was asked of him as a justice. And of course he wants a good replacement. Doesn't everyone that retires from work, want a good replacement to take their place?? You don't want to retire from your job and then have someone new come in there and can't do the job correctly, and everyone to come back to you, asking you to come out of retirement to "right the ship" again. I think his decision is perfectly fine if that is what he wants to do with his life.

I thought it was kinda ironic how he was appointed by a conservative president, but ended up being quite liberal.

Scary, scary. Although Souter was not nearly as conservative as the good justices like Alito and Roberts, he was definitely not a John Paul Stevens liberal either. This is the most important power of the President, because it has an effect long after he is gone. As just one implication, Obama's appointment of a liberal activist judge in this case could solidify Roe v. Wade forever.

I'm going to make my comment like a broken record when I say, what's the big deal? And no matter what a person portrays to be their way of ruling, they may always be the opposite. One will never really know.

I bet Obama is happy is is able to pick a supreme justice with his ideals.

To Conservatives, I doubt this is a huge issue due to the fact he was already Liberal, and his successor will most likely be Liberal as well. However, if more judges retire/ pass away, Conservatives could be in for a battle they most likely could not win.

First of all, to all those calling him liberal he was not the most left of the bunch so for the conservatives who will take what they can get this is a loss and his replacement is likely to be democratic and very left which is not what our government needs fewer checks in the system.

One More thing lets enjoy the democrats ruling everything, seriously cheap entertainment and it is likely to be short lived

Haha. Here it goes again. But, honestly whats the big deal? I mean let the guy retire if he wants to... it's his life. And then Obama gets to choose another judge. Big whoop. he'll pick a liberal. We all know it.
