This situation sounds very similar to a mobster movie and the prohibition age. Farmers reluctantly pay dues to the Taliban out of fear for what the Taliban could do to their family. Even when coalition forces try to eradicate the drugs, the cause is ineffective in serious reduction of the farming of these products. Just like in the Prohibition Age it appears that the illegal drugs have only gotten more popular. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot, with the United States being one of the largest consumers of these drugs.
