Okay, if you are at home and waiting for the fun to start, try turning to CSPAN. They tend to do a really good job of showing what is going on behind the scenes. Also, if you are out there and plan to post, post something to let me know you are going to participate.

I am at a school board meeting, so I may not see the beginning of the speech. I hear it will last 42 minutes and the topics will be the economy and Iraq.

I think it is the Secretary of Internal Affairs or Secretary of the Interior, something like that is what I heard

Mr. Keller said...

Thanks. I already spelled something wrong, so I deleted before I was destroyed by my students.

Anonymous said...

Yea!! No taxes!

Mr. Keller said...

Always fun to see half of the room clap and the other half sneer. The spirit of bipartisanship is alive in Washington.

Unknown said...

Hey Mr. Keller I'm watching the speech.

Mr. Keller said...

I have a video feed, but I have no sound, since I am at the school board meeting. All I can say is I really like the color of his tie. Can you all tell me what is going on? I am struggling here!!!!!

Jmoney said...

I love when he stands strong and says he'll veto these different bills.

Unknown said...

I was wondering about that

Mr. Keller said...

I think, yes, I am sure, V.P. Cheney is almost smiling!!!! It is a miracle.

Jmoney said...

He is talking about the economy and new bills that have been proposed and currently he is talking about the no child left behind act.

Unknown said...

Sorry, I was a little behind

Unknown said...

Did you see that guy sleeping?

Mr. Keller said...

Seriously, there are some awesome ties in the crowd. I wish I was there.

Anonymous said...

John Kerry clapping.. all is not right in the partisan world of D.C...

Unknown said...

He is talking about how we need to reduce our dependence on oil.

Master Waldo said...

Heh. Cheney is looks zoned out.

Unknown said...

Well, when you become president, put in a law where everyone has to wear a cool tie, but you can't give standing ovations. It's just an ego boost.
Did you hear Obama on Letterman? One of his Top 10 campaign promises was to appoint Mitt the Secretary of Lookin' Good. Hilarious.
And yes, I just saw a guy sleeping as well. Remember, they are an hour ahead, it must be past his bedtime.

Mr. Keller said...

I am so glad that all three of us decided to watch this together. I noticed John Kerry had an orange tie. I have one like that.

Unknown said...

Bush did say that he was going to give Congress a list of programs that are wasting money, so it will be interesting to see what those are. I believe he said there were 18(?).

Mr. Keller said...

Any good one liners yet? Any mention of pay raises for teachers?
Come on people I need some info. I don't have closed caption live feeds on the web.

Anonymous said...

I like that guy's yellow tie.. i want one..

Unknown said...

Actually, we had ties made almost the same color as Bush's for our wedding. They aren't very good quality, but I'll let you borrow it if you'd like.

Unknown said...

He is now talking about the justice system.

Jmoney said...

No one in the room is for cloning people. Even the hardcore democrats.

Master Waldo said...

I seriously thout Cheney just fell asleep. He seemed really interested in something on GW's back earlier. And Pelosi looks ready to take a nap as well

Unknown said...

Bush said something about lowering taxes and said that some people have offered to pay more. Then he joked that he welcomed that enthusiasm and that the IRS did take check and money order.

North American summit of Canada, US & Mexico will be in New Orleans this year.

Unknown said...

Every time I post something I'm like three post behind

Mr. Keller said...

How do I get one of those black robes? I am for cloning, if they clone me! You can't get too much of a good thing. Imagine every child getting the opportunity to experience my class at the same time. Go CLONES

Anonymous said...

He's talking about emigration reform now.. and how walls are good but a law needs to be passed to solve the problem of all the illegals here already.

Unknown said...

He is now talking about immigration.

Unknown said...

Don't worry Emily. I feel like I'm leapfrogging back and forth as well.

Multiple Keller's? We heard today that knowledge doubles every 17 days. Just think of how quickly it would be with multi-Keller's.

Anonymous said...

Condy looks scary... :(

Mr. Keller said...

Emily, don't listen to Mr. Allen. You need to get it done! No excuses.

Unknown said...

GW is being very reflective on "the last 7 years." He seems to be making a big deal about this being his last. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Anonymous said...

He's talking about terrorists now. He says "we will deliver justice to our enemies!"

Mr. Keller said...

I think I know when he said we were going to deliver justice. He was kind of gritting his teeth and then he gave that good ol'Bush laugh!

Unknown said...

Iraq discussion

Unknown said...

He is now talking about Iraq

Unknown said...

I can't believe you deleted my post...

Mr. Keller said...

Dr.S is sitting next to me and she said the J word is not acceptable for this blog. Sorry Mr. Allen.

Anonymous said...

He's still talking about Iraq and he says that the surges brought results nobody would have imagined a year ago.

Anonymous said...

He's still talking about Iraq and he says that the surges brought results nobody would have imagined a year ago.

Unknown said...

Ugh. I suppose I understand.

Anonymous said...

sorry i posted that twice... what was the "j" word... without saying it?

Unknown said...

"Al-qaeda is on the run in Iraq" due to the surges of last year.

Mr. Keller said...

Has he said this yet? ---"Some may deny the surge is working, but among the terrorists there is no doubt. Al Qaeda is on the run in Iraq, and this enemy will be defeated.

Do you agree with him?

Unknown said...

Patriot-
Dr. S will have to explain it to you. I would, but I'll get in trouble...again.

Mr. Keller said...

Sounds like Perk, but with a J

Beef Sandwich said...

This kind of goes to J Allen.

For him to reflect over his last seven years is quite a good idea. It's obvious that he's showing through the deaths, the war, the work, and the scratching of his pen, he's held this country together.

Personally, no matter how dumb people say Bush is because of his laugh, his "mis-speaking", his look, or whatever else people try to find, I think Bush has had one of the hardest presidency of all time and has done a dang well job working it. No other president has had to deal with an unsupported war, besides the end tags of Vietnam. No other president has had such a hit on the thoughts of national security. He's had it hard, and no one seems to support him. I vote for the people, not the party, and Bush is definitely one of the People I support.

Anonymous said...

ok.. YEA CONGRESS! Fund our troops! That's the only way we will have success in Iraq. In the end if congress is responsible in funding the war we will have victory.

Unknown said...

Keller- Is your closed captioning working? Cause that's rather accurate. Do we really get an accurate picture of what is actually happening in Iraq? Or is it what they want us to hear? I don't know if we can make an accurate assessment of the surge until after it's over.

Unknown said...

SDB-
I understand what you are saying, and I agree that he has had (arguably) one of the most difficult presidencies EVER. But this is the State of the Union. Not a farewell speech. I'm not annoyed with it, I guess, I'm just not sure it's the right place.

Beef Sandwich said...

Never got to say my HI's by the way.

Hello Mr. Keller? I like this project.

And hello Dr. S. Congrats on the baby.

Unknown said...

My aunt is watching it with me and she thinks he is a terrible speaker but i don't think he is that bad

Unknown said...

Condi does look like she has the death stare in full affect, whoever mentioned that earlier.

Unknown said...

He's had worse speaking moments. I don't think comedians will get as much out of this as other speeches.

Beef Sandwich said...

JAllen

When else would he do it. I mean, the man is talking at one of his last speeches. Why not hit up the State of the Union Address where the whole nation is watching, including all the democrats who may or may not hate him? I don't think everyone would watch his farewell speech because some just are ready to see him go.

Unknown said...

"No quarrel" with Iran.

Unknown said...

Right after I posted there was like twenty other post that came up

Anonymous said...

Iran needs to be taken care of.. the Pres knows that, now if only the dems would realize that we need to take care of the problem before it takes care of us.

Unknown said...

SDB-
Point taken. As I was reading your post, I thought he should do it next December as a "fireside chat" type speech, but you are right on.

Mr. Keller said...

I hope you all understand by now that just because the President is asking for these things, he has to rely on Congress for most of it. Congress is controlled by the Democrats and that makes it difficult. However, this is the power of the Presidency in full effect. Only he can get this much air time in prime time.

Unknown said...

Emily- Refresh your browser in between your posts so you can keep up.

Mr. Keller said...

Emily - you need to refresh your browser frequently to se updated posts. I hoep that helps.

Beef Sandwich said...

Real good point there Patriot.

Cough cough. Patriot reminded me of the superbowl. Go superbowl staff. That way i'm supporting a team in the SB.

Bush had great words right there. The time to act is now. Great words. I agree so much.

Unknown said...

There's seems to be more partisan standing ovations then last year. Am I just not remembering them?

Anonymous said...

Yea emily.. you're right.. last year the democrats didn't stand half as much as this year.

Mr. Keller said...

Mr. Allen - I think things get a lot more partisan in an election year, especially one for the presidency.

Unknown said...

Is there someone who tracks what the standing ovations are for and then if those things that were applauded actually make it as legislation? I think it would be interesting to see the breakdown.

Anonymous said...

$30 billion for AIDS relief in Africa?? Are you kidding me? America has problems we could solve with that kind of money...

Unknown said...

That's a good point about the election year. I saw Obama and Ted were sitting next to each other like new best friends at a lunch table.

Mr. Keller said...

AIDS is a global problem, don't you think?

Anonymous said...

oh, sorry mr. allen... i thought it was emily that posted about the standing ovations.

And I'm pretty sure there will be a breakdown of all the clapping and standing ovations at the end of the speech. FOX does post-speech stats.

Unknown said...

But has the money that has been sent to Africa making enough of a difference??

Don't worry Patriot, I knew what you mean. I know CNN does some stats as well, but I want to know if those bills pass. You can't find that out tonight.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Keller, yea AIDS is a global problem.. therefore the UN should deal with it. Not the US...

Unknown said...

I didn't see that end coming.

Unknown said...

That would be neat if the GI Benefits could transfer to their spouses or children.

Mr. Keller said...

Interesting pre-speech comments by Senate Majority Leader Reid ... "He'll tell us the war has turned a corner and that victory is in sight," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, said last week, adding that Americans have heard that refrain many times since Bush's declaration of victory in May 2003.

"Five years, nearly 4,000 deaths and half a trillion dollars later, the mission is still not accomplished," Reid said.

Comments on this?

Unknown said...

Just like AIDS, I'm worried that it's a lot of money without enough results.

Anonymous said...

That did end a little suddenly, and he didn't honor anyone like he has in previous years.

Mr. Keller said...

We are the UN! Not really, but a large portion. I think this a good thing to help people who are hurting. I would rather it come directly from us, so the view of us as a generous nation continues to be displayed globally.

Anonymous said...

Death is kind of a side effect of war.. it's just going to happen. And the war, especially with the surge, has turned around and started heading a different direction from where it was 2 years ago.

Unknown said...

Well I've got to go. Thanks everybody and sorry about my late post.

Mr. Keller said...

Final thoughts on the speech? What areas do you agree with or disagree with? Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Giving generously will make the US look good.. but that's not going to make other countries like us better. It's just a whole lot of money to write off to a place that doesn't have a mindset to use it effectively.

Unknown said...

John Roberts on CNN said that the joke about paying higher taxes referrs to a Bill Clinton comment about being wealthy and willing to pay higher taxes.

Unknown said...

I thought his speech was actually pretty good, but being a "lame duck" I wonder how much will actually happen. CNN did say that a good portion of his speech set up an agenda for the next Congress.

Good night everyone. Thanks for letting me into the party.

Anonymous said...

I thought it was a good speech. And despite what people think, President Bush did a great job holding this country together in such a hard time in the history of the world.

Anonymous said...

Good night everyone... actually... I think I'm alone now... :( well goodnight anyone...

Anonymous said...

I like Bush's tax policy. I will fight to keep taxes low but if you want to pay higher taxes, the IRS accepts checks and cash.
