The violence in Mexico has the possibility of spilling over into the US. It is important that this violence is stopped.
I don't think that an economic recession will damage the drug trade very much, if anything drug use will become much bigger.
Yes, it is important that the violence stops. But will it really ever? I think a better word choice would be to try and control the drug issues. Because no matter how good the economy is, there will be drug problems.
