This series greatly helps understanding what life in Russia is like. It covers almost everything we talked about earlier in more detail and gives examples from today's times. It is clear that Russia is falling behind today's superpowers. Their technology is lacking, leading to a very poor army. The drinking problem only further fuels this. With leaders drinking it is very hard to maintain rule of law, and with that the Mafia comes in only creating more problems and fear. The oil in Russia will not last forever and is creating a single sighted source of income, which has been shown to plague countries such as Nigeria.

All these problems are contributing to the decline of Russian Society, and throughout all this they have to deal with the AIDS epidemic. Before they barely treated it with all their other problems to contend with. Now they are finally trying to combat it, but they are probably too late. With Russia slipping back to authoritarian rule under Putin, the situation in Russia will most likely only get worse.

Thanks Dorris, but we don't need a summary of the video, how about some opinions? It's amazing how by just watching CNN you only scratch the surface of Russia's problems. This sounds terrible, but maybe they do need an authoritarian figure to rule, or at least get the country back on track from the aftermath of the fall of the Soviet Union and then later experiment with democracy.

I really liked this video series. I like the way Marecel stops to get personal accounts of the tradgedies that are occuring in Russia. It a face on the terms and gave me the knowledge of what really was happening in Russia. I don't want the Russian people to give up on democracy, but it needs to be run better but not nessarily managed.

Our world is becoming more and more dependent on foreign oil. It is kind of crazy to think that in probably the near future cars will not be running on gas. I think it will eventually be almost eliminated from our society. It is kind of hard for my mind to imagine. My mother said that the first time she saw a computer it was as big as a regular sized room. The people told her that their goal was to make it so regular people owned a computer and she said she laughed at them. Now look at where we are. The next generation is going to make fun of us for using gas to operate cars.

These videos were really great. seeing everything in "real-time" and knowing that it's all happening now made me sad.

The abortion to birth ratio, the amount of AIDS and alcoholics in Russia were insane. I never thought that such a developed country would be so horrible!
