Income Redistribution

Income redistribution is already used in the United States. It is the act in which money is redistributed from the rich to the poor in order to create a more equal economic society.  But at what point does the taxing become to much? Those who have wealth should be willing to help the poor. The three richest people in the world contain more financial assets than the poorest ten-percent.  But if the rich continue to have more taken away won't they stop investing in stocks and businesses? What they would invest would be simply taken away.
There is simply not enough people to support all of the social programs. Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), Medicaid, and Medicare, are all programs paid for through wealth redistribution. Wouldn't those living on wealth redistribution also be less likely to look for a job? Instead of working to make money they could just get funded through wealth redistribution. I believe that wealth redistribution is necessary to financially assist the poor, but I do not think we should continue to increase the amount we tax the wealthy. As Americans we should assist those in need but look to ourselves to provide our own income.

I agree. The wealthy should give charitable donations to the poor, but the government should not decide how much they give. I think that most of the rich people in this world have earned their wealth, and the government should not exponentially increase tax rates based on income. The tax rate should remain more consistent on a wider range of incomes.

I very much agree with both hot butter and John Conner! People with money have earned that reward and they should choose how to spend that money. If they choose to share their wealth with those who are less fortunate, then fabulous! but if not, shame on them. If everyone was just handed money, no one would want to work. Put yourself in that situation. If you knew that every month your parents would pay you $1000 whether you had a job or not, you probably wouldnt bother getting a job, you would just live off of your parents. So therefore. Inreased income redistribution is not the answer.

I agree wholeheartedly. The people that live off welfare and such from the government aren't motivated to go out and get a job, they get money from doing nothing. If they get a job, then they lose their welfare check. While I do think that maybe we should apply the income tax to the rich, instead of applying it only to a certian monetary amount.

I think the wealthy should support the poor. But some of the lower class should use that money to get back on their own feet. The money should go to those who deserve it. Those who use the money to try and get themselves back together. Jails are recieving money to help take care of prisoners, why? "Because they have rights" Some prisoners could consdider jail time a vacation. They don't have to work and they get free meals. Free meals from what, our tax dollars. If we gave the money we spend helping out those who are in jail to those who really need it, there wouldn't be such an incentive for criminal actions and the poor in our society would be able to live their lives as the rest of us do. They don't have to be rich, but isn't anything better than what they have now?

Shouldn't children of poor families have the same opportunities as children raised by families that are well off? If there isn't income redistribution in the U.S., those children will pay for their parents mistakes through their education and health care. Without income redistribution that gap between the wealthy and the poor will just keep increasing.

I agree also. We shouldn't tax the wealthy more, it's not their responsibility. However, I do believe the rich people should give some money to those less fortunate. I can't stand watching celebrities live these extravagant lifestyles and find out they give little to nothing to charitable institutions.

I also agree with Lance51's statement saying that the people who live off of welfare won't want to get a job. They think it's free money, which it is because they aren't doing anything. We live in America, there are plenty of opportunities out there. They just need to work for it. People from other countries immigrated to the United States with less than the poor here have. They were determined to make a difference and start their lives over again. The poor people here can do the same thing.

Hey Inigo, does it really matter if the wealth gap is increasing?
Is a wealth gap bad? As long as the rich and poor are both earning their plight than they are getting what they deserve. If that means a wealth gap, so be it. The Declaration of Independence does not say that "All men shall be made equal", it says "all men are created equal. If some people have more money than others, WHO CARES! They earned it.

I think we should help those who cannot help themselves and if increasing taxes will help accomplish this then I am all for it. I do not think that all wealthy people have earned their money or deserve it. Honestly, no one needs nearly as much money as many people have. I am not saying that we should take all the money away from the rich and give to the poor. I am just saying that if you have money to give, then give. If you increased the taxes on some wealthy people I really doubt it would make too large of a dent in their millions and sometimes billions of dollars.
Being selfish should not be an excuse.

Also, how do you know that people are not motivated to get jobs. You don't. You do not live in their families and go through that they have to experience everyday. I just feel everyone deserves a little help every once in awhile. If you have something to give, then give.

Oh and lovable loser, I have a question. Did you or your parents earn your wealth?
You are saying that children do not deserve extra money or help because it is their fault they are poor? This makes no sense. They cannot help who they are born to or how much money they have.
You only have money because of your family. You had nothing to do with it lovable loser.
Your argument makes no sense whatsoever.
