The situation we as a country find ourselves in calls for desperate change. The economy now demands attention at its current state. Other issues thrown around such as welfare and social security can no longer be ignored. So now it comes down to the few weeks before the election that determines the outcome of out country for the next several years. During the four years of our next president's term, many extremely important decisions will be made, and change will occur. What it all boils down to is which candidate has the ability to produce and maintain these changes.
Senator Obama's slogan is all about change. He brags about all the work he has done while being a community organizer and how much his wife does. Michelle Obama works as a VP for a non-profit hospital. According to the Chicago Tribune, "One of her passions, public service work, led her to leave what could have been a lucrative career in law for public service. But making lots of money was never her goal."
This "public service work" at the University of Chicago Hospitals includes charging the uninsured minorities three and a half times as much as people with insurance for the exact same treatment. The hospital earned over $100 million within a year. These earnings gave Michelle Obama $195,000, and a salary of $316,962. Again, this hospital call itself "non-profit." If it wasn't about the money, why would it be accepted? Why would they charge the already poor people such ridiculous amounts? And if the hospital has that money to be used in "non-profit" ways, shouldn't it be used to improve the hospital somehow instead of giving pay raises to the workers?
Note that this is going on in Obama's community, in his family. The healthcare problems are evident, and being a community organizer and all, one would think, and hope, that Obama would be able to make some changes. Problems like this exist all over the country, in which citizens are getting cheated and lied to. The country needs a strong leader who isn't afraid to step up to the plate, face challenges, and make the required changes for the betterment of the people. Is Obama really capable of doing that for the whole country if he fails to accomplish that task on a much smaller scale in his own community?

I think you are fishing for anything to make Michelle Obama’s situation look bad. Yes she could earn a $300,000 plus salary…but did you care to look into what she has done to truly help the hospital? No. Hospitals have enormous expenses; labor, facility, capital where income goes. Any organization that, after expenses, doesn’t have money would no longer have that business. Making the assumption that this is all going to pay raises is wrong. Though I do believe in the need for changes in health care, I believe you are looking in the wrong place.
I just would like to say something about Obama's "Change" slogan...
EVERYONE running for president says that they are going to bring change. Which may happen for the first 100 days that they are in the white house, but then ends. Canidates always tell people of what they are going to do to help us and bring a change, but that never seems to happen. Thats just one of the reasons why so many people don't support Bush.
Obama just displays "Change" on all of his posters...how is that going to make him any different.
Change is good. But Obama wants too many changes. Congress will not let all the changes happen and the American people who supported Obama for his promises of change will be mad. Some of his changes will happen, but most will not happen.
What else is she supposed to charge people who dont have insurance? Nothing? The only reason these are charged so much is because they dont have insurance. Is that Obama's fault? Definitaly not. She doesnt pick and choose how much she charges these people. There are set amounts for different treatments and she has no control over what those amounts are. I agree with vader on this one. Im pretty sure this is a shot in the dark.
I agree with Omega. Anyone can bring change but just because you promise to shuffle the system doesn't mean that the system is going to work better.
I agre that you may just be tryig to make her situtation look bad. And if it is charging so much then people wouldn't be going there?
Do you know for a fact that all the workers are getting pay raises and that none of the profits are being used to better the hospital?
I think that there are multiple situations like this for both can McCain and Obama that look bad. It's not fair to blame Obama for his wife's work or McCain for his wife's houses.
This post reminds me of the countless attacks Obama and McCain have fired off at one another. I personally think that they don't have much effect on anyone's vote, except for the fact that it satisfies party hardliners. These attacks are pointless because hardliners will vote for their candidate under any circumstances. If I wasn't sure of who to vote for, I wouldn't lean towards McCain just because Michelle Obama's work at a non-profit hospital was a little sketchy.
