The point of the cartoon is to show the reader how ridiculus it is for the government to bail out an organization that overspent, and will most likely repeat the act once bailed out. If the government bails out carefree companies who spend too much they might as well bail at all those people who spend to much and have collected massive debt.
I liked this cartoon. The government should NOT bail out the companies. They dug their own graves, let them climb out. Do not make the American people pay for the companies mistakes.
Yeah they can bail out the people with massive debt but then those people are going to do the same thing you (the professor) said the companies would do. They are going to accumulate debt again and not be able to pay it off and we'll be in the same position we are now.

Yes we did need this for the whole country! It didn't just help the rich. Without it the lower income might loose their jobs too!
